Nationserv was founded in Stevenage and is still run by people based here. The community programme is small, deliberate and delivered by our own teams. No charity middlemen, no marketing campaigns. Just the work. Here are three of the projects we are most proud of.
Nationserv was founded in 2015 and has been operating from Hertfordshire ever since. The fitters, surveyors and project managers live in the streets we work on.
That proximity changes the work. We do not give to the local community as a tick box exercise or a marketing line. We give because the family without flooring lives down the road from us, the nurses at Lister Hospital looked after our children, and the school we transformed is the one many of our staff's kids attend.
Every story below was delivered by Nationserv's own teams, using materials we paid for, in time we made for it. The recipients did not pay a penny.
Read the Nationserv storyA vulnerable family newly housed in Stevenage moved in to a home with three young children, including a crawling baby, and no flooring on any level. We supplied and fitted complimentary carpets throughout the downstairs and on the hall, stairs and landing.
The family were placed in temporary accommodation with bare floorboards on every floor. For a baby starting to crawl, that meant splinters, cold and the daily stress of trying to make a hard surface safe for a child who does not yet walk.
We were made aware through local contacts. The team carried out a measure up, ordered the carpet, and fitted it across the downstairs and the full run of hall, stairs and landing. Daniel Lane and Steve Eaton handled the install.
The paediatric nurses at Lister Hospital have a small garden they use to step away from the ward. The space needed privacy, the chair needed a repair, and the team that looks after our children needed a thank you.
Nationserv purchased and installed brand new trellis to give the nurses' garden some additional privacy from the surrounding hospital site. The team also took on a much needed repair of the garden chair the nurses use most.
The whole job was led by Clive, one of our long serving team. A small project on paper, but a meaningful one for a group of people who give an exceptional level of care every day.
It is the kind of thing we are quietly proud of. Not big enough to make headlines, just useful enough to matter.
In spring 2024, Nationserv provided Trotts Hill, a local Stevenage school, with a complete garden transformation, including a giant sandpit and tunnels, at no cost to the school. The space has since helped Trotts Hill win the OPAL Platinum award, placing the school in the top 1% of the country for outdoor play and learning.
The school garden was tired and underused. Nationserv stepped in with a full transformation: a giant sandpit, exploration tunnels, and a redesign of the play space that gave the children somewhere to be creative outdoors.
The work was completed in spring 2024 by Nationserv's own teams, with all materials purchased by the company. The project was led by directors Darren and Rhys, with the school being one many of our staff's children attend.
A year later, Trotts Hill was awarded the OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) Platinum award, the top tier of a national framework recognising the schools that do play best. It places Trotts Hill in the top 1% of the country.
It has been wonderful to see the children enjoying the amazing changes to our school site, being creative in the giant sand pit and exploring the tunnels. It is very true that the heart of the town lies in its people. We will be forever grateful to Nationserv Specialist Contractors, for their kindness, generosity and the difference they made to our site, this helped us to improve our play offer and will benefit our children for years to come.
